Though some of the culture crowd that hangs out in these parts might sniff at the mention of "American Idol," keep in mind that it's a genuine pop culture phenomenon (and America's No. 1 TV show). In the name of being relevant to readers (and generating precious hits for my newspaper's blog), I volunteered this season to watch "AI" and carp
about the show -- and while I can't say that it's been my most edifying cultural experience, it's actually been kinda fun. One thing I've learned, blogging-wise, is that it can quite enjoyable to blog a big TV event live by offering running commentary and incorporating comments from readers. (It's the ultimate example of interactivity with readers, which seems to delight editors these days). I did it with the Oscars and figured I'd try it again with tonight's West-Coast feed of "American Idol." Feel free to drop in from 8-10 p.m. West Coast time and weigh in on the Battle of the Davids. I'll be live at fresnobeehive.com/donald. Or you can always stop by afterward (and don't say like at the scene of an accident) and view the aftermath.
